Location Collected: Collected in the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden at UCLA found in the upper region of the garden near the sloping rock wall.
Nativity: The bush anemone is native to California and is mostly found growing in Fresno and Madera Counties.
Habitat: The bush anemone grows near the foothills of Fresno County and grows in granitic soil along seasonal creeks. This plant grows in our nearby chaparral along elevations of 340-1340 meters.
Special Notes: The bush anemone is the only species in the genus Carpenteria and is currently listed as threathened. Carpenteria californica is fairly resistant to wildfires and easy to cultivate in gardens, which is why it has been grown since 1875.
